Dental Veneers Patient
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells designed to cover the front surface of the teeth. They are custom-made and are the same color as your natural teeth. At Parkway Dental, we use porcelain veneers to dramatically improve the smiles of our clients.
Porcelain veneers are the solution for various dental issues: discolored teeth (from tetracycline or other drugs, or root canal treatment), chipped or broken teeth, teeth with gaps between them, crooked teeth, even gummy smiles.
After your initial appointment where the dentist will examine your teeth to see if veneers are appropriate for your situation, two additional appointments will be needed for preparation and application. To prepare the tooth for the veneer, ½ millimeter of enamel is removed from the tooth surface. Then an impression is taken of your tooth and sent to the lab to construct the veneer. In one to two weeks, the finished veneer is ready to be placed. It is tested for size and fit, and adjusted as needed. Then your teeth are cleaned and polished and the tooth in question is etched to roughen the surface for better bonding adhesion. Cement is applied and the veneer is placed onto the tooth. A special light is used to rapidly cure the cement. After any final adjustments, you’re ready to go.
