Are You a Candidate for Dentures?

Typically, anyone who is missing most or all of their natural teeth is a good candidate for full dentures. When tooth loss is sporadic and you have a substantial amount of healthy remaining teeth, partial dentures may be better suited. If you are looking for a more durable solution for replacing your missing teeth, we also offer implant-supported dentures. Since this option requires dental implant surgery, patients must have healthy gums and adequate jawbone density to qualify.

Dr. Michael Haight will perform a thorough evaluation of your gums, jawbone, and remaining teeth at our Albuquerque, NM, dental office to determine the appropriate type of denture for you. If gum disease or tooth decay is present, those will need to be addressed before proceeding with restorative care.

Our Denture Options

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are made with a gum-colored base and artificial teeth designed to match your natural tooth enamel for realistic results. Your prosthetic device will be customized to fit securely and comfortably over your gums. These removable dentures rely on suction and a dental adhesive to hold them in place. Removable dentures should be taken out nightly for cleaning and to allow your gums to rest while you sleep.

Partial Dentures

When tooth loss occurs in multiple areas of your mouth, but you still have a healthy number of remaining teeth, we may recommend a partial denture. Much like full dentures, partial dentures also have a gum-colored acrylic base and natural-looking artificial teeth, but your device will be affixed to a metal base with tiny clasps that secure to nearby teeth to hold the prosthetic in place. Partial dentures can be easily slipped on and off for easy cleaning and to allow your gums to rest at night.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Rather than attaching to nearby teeth or resting on your gums, implant-supported dentures are supported by four to six dental implants in either the upper or lower jaw. Before the restoration is designed and placed, we will insert tiny implant posts into your jawbone through a surgical procedure. Over the course of four to six months, your jawbone will undergo a process known as osseointegration in which the implants fuse with your natural bone tissues.

Since dental implants function like natural tooth roots, they prevent your jawbone from suffering tissue degeneration (a side-effect of tooth loss). Compared to traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures provide longer-lasting results, unparalleled support and durability, improved comfort, and improved oral health.

Understanding All-on-X Dentures Cutting-Edge Treatment for Extensive Tooth Loss

While traditional dentures can be effective, implant-supported dentures offer a number of unique benefits. Dr. Michael Haight discusses some of the health issues caused by long-term tooth loss and explains why he often prefers the All-on-X® technique.

Designing Dentures

To design a full, partial, or implant-supported denture, we will take a series of x-rays and scans to create a 3D model of your smile. Dr. Haight will then send this model to a trusted dental lab where technicians will manufacture your customized prosthetic. The fabrication process typically takes two to three weeks. During your follow-up visit, we will check that your denture fits and, in the case of removable dentures, demonstrate how to remove and care for the restoration at home.

An Affordable Solution

At Parkway Dental, we believe that cost should never prohibit patients from receiving the dental care they need. If insurance only covers a portion of your treatment or none at all, we offer cost-effective solutions to help cover out-of-pocket expenses, such as Compassionate Finance™. This payment plan option includes fixed interest rates and flexible terms so that costs can be broken down into manageable monthly payments.

Our dentists want to make restorative dentistry affordable for everyone.
